Traditionally, Yoga is taught from one teacher or Guru to one student or Yogin. However, this practice has been modified to suit the needs of our hectic American lives. At Svadhyaya Yoga, in order to maintain a connection to the traditional practice of Yoga, each class begins with a Dharma talk that draws from a historical text. Below are some of the texts used.

Another adaptation that has been made in America is the use of music as part of the Asana class. Mantra or chanting has begun to make it's way into popular music. Musical artists including Sting and Madonna have created their own forms of Yoga music. Traditionally, Mantra is a practice that uses sound vibration to create a connection with the inner Self. Different vibrations can create various responses. Below are some of the artists used during the Asana practice at Svadhyaya Yoga.
